So much is heard about the
plight of the low-income/single
parent group that we tend to over-
look the fact that you are the
income group that not only pays
the bulk of taxes to support those:
in less fortunate circumstances, but
are increasingly finding it difficult
to cope with the high costs of
housing, mortgage/rent. trans-
portation and gas to and from
work, house/car insurance, etc. let
alone food and clothing for the
family.

news article, should the marriage
break down, Stats Canada esti-
mates that a support payment of
$705 per child would be adequate
for a middle class male earning
$50,000 per year.

What does not appear to have
been taken into consideration is
that after 40% of that amount is
deducted at source, the net take-
home pay amounts to about $2,500
per month.

Sure seems to be out of line to
me, ‘when compared with the
above mentioned $30 Child Tax
Credit a two-parent fumily is sup-
posed to be grateful for.
