The Maplewood marsh restora- tion project, also called the Park Street Marsh Restoration Project, is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Further work to be done in- volves covering the berm with topsoil, planting trees and shrubs, and pulting up protective fencing. Kotyk expects the . restored marsh to be in a fully productive state in three to five years. The marsh is focated on the western edge of Maplewood mudflats near Dollarton Highway and Forester Street. In June, more than 80 com- munity volunteers tackled the job of removing smaller pieces of debris wasned up or dumped at the site. NVD has paid more than half of the project’s $60,000 cost. The Burrard Inlet Environmental Ac- tion Program, CanadianOxy, Tolko Industries, North Shore News, Wild Birds Nature Shop and Chemex Labs Ltd. have also contributed to the project.
