Fashions from 1:30-2 p.m. Thirty
children will parade down Lons-
dale, in North Vancouver, from
16th Ave. to 15th and back. Fash-
ions by Tadpole from Lucy’s
Place.

SUNE 16-Burrard Chapter No. 3,
Order of the Eastern Star will be
holding a “Country Garden”’ lun-
cheon and fashion show, featuring
fashions by the Lonsdale Style
Shop, from 12-2 p.m. at the North
Lonsdale United Church Hall,
3380 Lonsdale, im North Van-
couver. There will also be a bake
sale and door prizes. Tickets $3.50.

hooked on
H. Kong silk

HONG KONG manufacturers of
silk garments have unlocked the
secret of the Japanese market for -
silk garments, quadrupling their
exports to Japan in only two years.

. Hong Kong’s domestic exports
of silk garments to Japan grew

rapidly by 126 per cent in 1988 to
$15 (all prices are in Canadian
dollars); and another 167 per cent
in the first three quarters of 1989,

to $25.9 miltion.

At present, major export items
are blouses, outer garments and
shirts.

The accurate reading of fashion
trends in Japan has been the major
factor in the success of Hong Kong
silk manufacturers. They have
moved away ‘from the traditional,
classic lines towards modern
trends, capturing a younger
clientele.

Natural colors have also been
emphasized, in accordance with
the current trend, and white proves
to be the most popular with Japa-
nese wearers.
