Contestants needed for local pageant GOING INTO the home stretch of its annual quest to recognize a fitting North Shore ambassador, the Miss North Shore Pageant committee is finding itself with | more spon- sors than contestants. The entry deadline. for contes- tant candidates is July 8 for the 37th annual Miss North Shore Pageant. The new Miss North Shore will be crowned ‘Aug. 5 at the Centen- nial Theatre in North Vancouver. : Candidate. entry forms are available at The Perfect Setting, 124 West -16th St., North Van- couver and at the Capilano Mall administration office. . Every Tuesday in July .contes- tants will meet to take in modelling courses supplied by Eva Vincente : Media and Talent Group. . Every Thursday candidates will meet with a choreographer from Jassmone B Dance Co. to practise dance routines for the pageant. Contestants and the reigning Miss ‘North Shore, Gail Warr- ington, will be on hand for a car wash July 10, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the 23rd and Lonsdale Chevron station, July 15 will see a fashion show ‘judging event at Capilano Mall, 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. This year’s judges’ are Julia Pegg, Donald James, Elko Kroon, Ald. Stella Jo Dean, Bob Mathews and Leslie Thorson. On July 16 there will be a car wash from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Esso station at 14th and Marine. July 17, Dino’s Place restaurant will be the site of a brunch in- cluding etiquette instruction. At 6:30 p.m., July 20, all can- didates, the pageant committee and the five pageant judges will be meeting at Grouse Mountain for a judging event. . Lynn Valley Centre hosts a fash- ion show 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., July 22..On July 27 it’s Lonsdale Quay’s turn for a fashion show at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. July 21, 22, 23, and 24 will see candidates selling hot dogs and Coke for $1 at the Save-On-Foods store in Richmond.’ On July 30, the administrative departments of Capilano Mall and Lynn Valley Mall will be drumm- ing up merchant donations for the “goody bags’’ that will be handed out to pageant contestants. The flurry of activity culminates . with the pageant show and crown- ing, 7 p.m. at the Centennial Theatre. Her mother Helen is a member of the pageant committee and her 17-year-old sister Cara plans to enter the pageant next year. Warrington is the seventh of eight children and plans to follow in the footsteps of her mother and two older sisters to train as a regis- tered nurse.
