Paterson finished in fifth spot in a compulsory figures category, and fifth in the short program in men’s singles skating action in the Alber- ta city. Overall, Paterson is in fourth spot with a total of five placement points. Canadian figure skating great Brians; Osser from Ontario came first in the men’s compulsory fig- ures event, and Elizabeth Manley captured the top women’s spot. Orser and Manley lead the event in men’s and women’s events, respectively. Three figures were compulsory in this portion of the competition — an inside counter, a paragraph bracket and a paragraph loop. Judges rated the skaters on their shape and symmetry and the cleanliness of the blade edges and turns.
