Mike McLoughlin said the Cancer Society is having dif- ficulties getting apartment building canvassers for its annual door-to- door fundraising campaign, April 7-21, He said many North Shore apartment owners are reluctant to ~ have outsiders canvas in the buildings. : » “People living in apartments are the canvassers we need the most. If we can’t get into the apartments a “good percentage of the people don't get the opportunity to donaté to the campaign,’’ he said. About 400 volunteers’ are re-. quired on the North Shore, evenly split between North and West Vancouver, McLoughlin said. The target this year for cancer donations on the North Shore is $220,000 — up 10 per cent from last year. The B.C. fundraising target is $3.3 million. The money raised goes towards _ cancer. research, patient services and public education. Last year $22 million in Canada . was allocated to cancer research, with more than $2 million spent in B.C. for reseach. McLoughlin said the annual door-to-door campaign is very im- portant to the society, because the majority of its finances are receiv- ed from the residential campaign. In B.C., McLoughlin said, there ‘care 114 community groups organizing the campaign, and alt, he said, are reporting a decrease in the number of volunteers willing to CONCORDE COPY WHILE YOU WAIT: SERVICE ON MANY JOBS HIGH QUALITY ECONOMICAL PRICING NO EXTRA_CHARGE FOR COLLATING OR COLOURED STOCK ie. enjoys making her own NORTH ‘VAN COURTS: Barry D. ‘Baker, 317 West Sth Street, North’.
