Something new on ice

NORTH SHORE girls’
enthusiasm for
Ringette is still a puzzle
to many who have not
yet heard of this new
and. ¢xciting team
sport. They've been
playing for four years
here on the North
Shore — longer than in
Langley and Poco —
and more than 100,000
girls are playing in
Canada, the USA &
Europe, since it began
in Ontario in 1963.

But Ringette still has a
long way to go. Many
parents, willing to spend
money on their sons’
hockey, have yet to learn
that their daughters have a
unique and = wonderful
alternative to hockey —
Ringette — better than

because it’s designed to give
equal ice time for all girls on
the ice, there’s no body
contact and the concept is to
have fun! The girls wear tube
skates — hockey skates —
helmets with faceguards,
knee and elbow pads and
padded gloves.

registation will be held

Karen Magnussen Arena at
7:00 p.m. Registrations will
have to be accepted on a
first-come, first-served basis.

sitting back while your
brothers and _ boyfriends
register for hockey — think
about trying Ringette! Don't
worry if you can’t skate well
— we'll teach you! A
Ringette School will be held
again both for conditioning
and for teaching basic skills
and power skating to new
girls. All girls, ages 7 to 17
are welcome!
