voiced their anger over the
assessment authority's at-
tempt to invalidate the
cutback which would have
the effect of lowering thetr
school taxes.

This time Jones, whose
failure to hide his anger had
raised cyebrows at the court
of revision hearing. left at to
Deputy Assessor Calvin
Smyth to present the
assessment authority's case.

attempted a I5 per cent
reduction as a compromise,
which failed to satisfy the
assessment authority.

Smyth Maintained
Monday that the authority's
mean assessment value was
about 94 per cent of the
market value. Though he
conceded there were
examples of highs and lows
in the assessments, he in-
sisted the highs were only
moderate. The assessment
authonty considers such
instances should have been
dealth with by individual
appeal.

Disunct staff stressed that
the decline in real estate
prices is continuing and that
there was no justification to
change the rollback already
awarded
