DANGEROUS TOYS LISTED

Raising ‘little assassins’

WASHINGTON (UPI)—A
collection of projectile guns,
slingshots,archery sets and
toy guns are the most
dangerous toys on the store
shelves this Christmas
season, a U.S. consumer
group said recently.

The group. also listing the
best toys it found, gave top
tating to the Astroids video
game and the Pyraminx, a
three-dimensional pyramid
puzzle along the lines of
Rubik's cube, last year's hot-
selling brain teaser.

Ann Brown, head of the
group, said the toy weapons
the group collected “look
like they were donated to us
by (Libyan leader Moam-
mar) Khadafy

“The burden 1s on the
parent,” she told a news
conference. ‘These toys
require supervision

The group said its

operatives, conducting their
10th annual survey were
“easily able to purchase in
toy stores a wide range of
realistic ‘ooking and
potentially dangerous loys
and arrows, darts.
shngshots, cap bombs, dart
guns and cork guns of all

types.”

Because the Consumer
Product Safety Commission
decided earlier this year not
to impose regulations on
toys that shoot projectiles,
the matter has been left to
voluntary industry efforts,
Mrs. Brown said.

The commission said last
week it has not found any
single toy this year that is
dangerous in terms of
federal law,

and it em-
phasized the need for
parental supervision. The

ADA consumer group did
not claim the guns and other
toys violate federal law, but
said that as a category, they
could be hazardous.

In its “most dangerous
toy” category, the group
singled out the Falconmatics
cap gun, the Ghost cap gun
with removable = silencer
made by Fdison toys and
ABC's Wide World of Sports
Deluxe Dart Set made by
Crown Recreation

The group said it did not
hke the cap guns because
they are too reahsuc-looking
and would be difficult to
supervise I[t said the darts
contained no warning label
