This week the. TV. screen will be
cluttered with ‘these productions: as
ABC, CBS and the independent.
Operation. Prime. Time networks «all
roll. out their. multi-million-dollar.
productions. Here are'some facts. and...

Comments: After getting a glimpse at
the production, one got the feeling
that Part | took too long to zero in on |
the characters and their: problems, —
mainly because of the frequent.
jump-cutting to. focus on some of the.
other sub-plots. The camera: work is
excellent, as is the re-creation of the
| attack on’ the ‘Hawaiian Islands. —
Unfortunately,- the . character.
| portrayals—Weaver as the grisly base _
_- commander,..Wagner ‘as. a- swash- ©
buckling | -Captain, ..Dickinson. ‘as.
Weaver's adulterous. wife and Warren .
as a lady-in-waiting—are all typecast:
They are all talented people but they —
are only as good as the lines in. the .
script, which are. too cliche-ish..
‘Pearl’. is - still. -worth... watching
because the story gets ‘better as time
goes on. But if viewers were as bored =
as | was in the opening segment, ABC
will feel the Grunt of the viewers’
displeasure.in the Nielsens.
