North Shore woos Junior By Robert Galster News Reporter GOLE may be about to become the ruling pas- time of the Lower Mainland’s hockey play- ers and fans alike, but at least one North Shore resident is staying true to the sport. North Vancouvee’s Phil Degranpre’s dream is to rein- stall a Junior B hockey franchise on the North Shore. It’s an idea that hasn’t seen the light of an ice rink since the North Shore Winter Club Flames feft in 1994, This past year Degranpre coached a West Vancouver midget A team and, according to the 35-year-old coach, some of his graduating kids’ had nowhere to go. You ate inyited to participate in this Variety Club Fundraiser, with a goal to “Somewhere along the line you have to stem the exodus from the community,” said Degranpre. Once the idea of starting a Junior B team on the North Shore crystallized, it tzcame obvious Degranpre needed someone with enough business savvy to handie the application process. The person he approached Vancouver's Ker Wilson. Degranpre had first met Wilson through coaching the larter’s sons. To date, all the necessary forms have been filled out and the only thing that remains is the blessing of the seven-team league.
