A 56-YEAR- OLD Vancouver man has. been ‘charged with
trying to extort money froin prominent, West Vancouver

-businessnian Jinimy Pattison.

RCMP spokesman Peter Montague would not refeuse
details of the extortion bid, but said media reports of a $2
million figure were close to the actual figure:

Along with the extortion charge, a charge of uttering a

. threat was also laid against Clement Joseph on Aug. 10.
Pattison initially relayed information on the extortionist
to police, who started an investigation July 24.
Pattison paid a $200,000. ransom in 1990 to free his

daughter from kidnappers.
