Judith Marcuse Dance Co. repeats collaborative effort NORTH VANCOUVER’S Judith Marcuse Dance Company is combining its creative talent with Canadian singers Sarah McLachlan and Jim Byrnes and their bands tonight and tomorrow at the Commodore Ballroom. It’s the second time Marcuse has performed Ballet and the Band. She says the success of the company's first collaboration- production in 1989 encouraged her to mount a repeat perfor- mance. **,..People talked about it (the first performance) for months afterwards,” says Marcuse. “We are looking forward to another great event, decidedly light in fia- vor, in a relaxed atmosphere that allows people to see dance and hear music combined in a way they may not expect.”’ The company will open the show with a new work by Mar- cuse, which has been choreographed to McLachlan’s music. The singer will present songs from both her Touch and Solace recordings in addition to signature work like Vox and Drawn to the Rhythm. Other work includes choreograher Lola MacLaughlin’s Cadence, which premiered last year in Vancouver, and a Spanish classical dance created by local choreographer Oscar Nieto. Ballet and the Band, hosted by writer-broadcaster Bill Richardson, begins at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster, 280-3311. On Sunday, March 8, Judith Marcuse Dance Company per- forms at the Festival Concert Society’s Sunday Coffee Concert at the Vancouver Playhouse.
