Reduce the
hazards of
rust to
your
automobile

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE the
power of rust. It will seek out
weak spots and wreak slow and
silent havoc on your car’s metal
parts.

Rust occurs where water is
trapped or wherever there is con-
tinual dampness.

.@ Water will collect inside doors
and body panels if drain holes
become clogged.

@ If water is allowed to seep
under and continually soak floor
mats, fleor areas will suffer.

@ Road dirt or sand, which col-
lects and fills recesses on the
underside of the car, retains
moisture long after the rest of the
car has dried out.

Other factors can come into
play to aggravate rust damage.
Salt used for road de-icing can
coat the underbody of a car and
hasten rusting. Areas with high
humidity have greater rust poten-
tial than others. Moist sea air, for
example, is especially harmful
because of its salt and water mix-
ture. Finally, industrial pollution
can accelerate the deterioration of
car paint, opening another door to
rust.
