North Van co. unveiling
new digital technology

by North Vancouver-based DBA Communication Systems

month at the Telecom °9]

telecommunications trade show in Geneva, Switzerland.

ADAM (Advanced Digital Ap-
plication Modules) is targeted to
fill the voice and data com-
munications needs of small to
mid-sized businesses.

The system includes a number
of modules to handle functions
such as fax, data terminal inter-
face, voice storage and digital-
analog system interface.

Said DBA president David
Bensted, ‘‘The main difference
between this system and most of
the systems out there is that if you
have a phone system and you
want to add things to it like a
voice mail system or an automated
attendant or if you want an
automatic call director — tradi-
tionally these things would need
another unit and you tied it into
the system and there’s often prob-
lems with compatibility. What this
does is that all of these functions
can be built to be an integrai part
of the system itself. It’s a fully-
modular system with an open ar-
chitecture.”’

While other telecommunications
companies offer similar systems,
the DBA technology is focused on
providing a flexible product
designed to appeal to smaller scale

The launch of the ADAM pro-
duct heralds DBA'’s move into the
realm of ISDN (Integrated Ser-
vices Digital Network). Bensted
said that B.C. Tel plans to in-
troduce ISDN within the next year
to 18 months.
