10 - Wednesday, January 18, 1989 - North Shore News Service clubs help each other out ONE NORTH Shore service club was able to continue with a long- standing Christmas charitable tradition this past Christmas, with the help of another North Shore service club. For the past 19 years, the North Shore Kinsmen Club has hosted its Seniors’ Christmas Dinner about a PRESIDENT of the local Sorop- timist chapter Wilda Girdler ---helping out the Kinsmen. week before Christmas Day. The Kinsmen provide transportation for seniors and elderly shut-ins from all over the North Shore to Yic’s Restaurant, where a tradi- tional Christmas dinner is served. In early December, the Kinsmen realized they lacked the funds to put on the dinner, so Kinsmen president Mike Wiliams ap- proached Wilda Girdler, president of the Soroptimists International Club of North and West Van- couver, to seek her club’s support in funding the dinner, and so con- tinue the tradition. Girdler informed her members of the dilemma the Kinsmen faced, and of the worthiness of suppor- ting the project, and she was able to gain her club's unanimous ap- proval. As a result, the 1988 Seniors Christmas Dinner was a great suc- cess with over 170 guests being served and entertained. In addi- tion, with the help of several vol- unteers, transportation was pro- vided for more than 90 dinner guests to and from their homes.
