THE DISTRICT of North Van-
couver continues to record one of
the lowest rates of motor vehicle
accidents for large municipalities
in both the Lower Mainland and
around the province.

‘According to the B.C. Traffic
Accident Statistics report, there
was a total of 1,559 traffic acci-
dents in the district in 1986. Of
that total, three were fatal, 355 in-
volved injuries and 1,201 caused
property damage.

in contrast to North Vancouver
District, Kamloops, Nanaimo and
Saanich all recorded 10 fatal acci-
dents in 1986 and more than twice
the number of injuries.

Delta and Matsqui had seven
fatal accidents each, and had more
than twice the number of injuries
that North Vancouver Distvict re-
corded.

However, pedestrian-vehicle ac-
cidents took a jump in the district
from 22 in 1985 to 29 in 1986.

The most recent figures though,
indicate that 1987 may show fewer
pedestrian-vehicle mishaps. There
have been 12 such accidents be-
tween Jan. 1, 1987 and June 30.
This compares to [6 pedestrian-
vehicle accidents during the same
period in 1986.

The supervisor of traffic opera-
tions in the district is currently
looking at the figures to see if
there are some common problems
that might be causing the high
number of pedestrian-vehicle acci-
dents.

The 1986 figures showed the
highest number of pedestri-
an-vehicle mishaps over a 10-year
period.

Panorama Drive Saturday after-
noon and evening.

A bus will provide continuous
service along Panorama Drive for
the duration of the road closure.

The carol ship flotilla will swing
by Ambleside and Caulfeild in
West Vancouver, Sunday, Dec. 20.
The ships will be at Ambleside,
7:40 p.m.; Dundarave and
Caulfeild at 8:15 p.m. and Tid-
dlycove at 9 p.m.
