And, treating your pool water today requires far less time than it used to, thanks to the wide variety of automatic pool care products available. According to the Canadian Spa and Pool Association (CANSPA), chemicals may be purchased in tablet form and automatic chlorinators will dispense the pro- per amount of disinfectant into the water as needed. Test kits simplify chemical balancing by providing instant information on chemical requirements of the water. And automatic cleaning devices take the elbowgrease out of remov- ing debris from the pool. Occasionally, however, a special problem may arise requiring special treatment. One such pro- blem is algae, which can develop even in well-maintained pools dur- ing extremely hot weather or after heavy rains. To control algae, CANSPA suggests: e Maintain the water’s pH be- tween 7.2 and 7.4, e If algae appear, shock treat the pool with super-chforinator. After it thoroughly dissolves and circulates, brush algae spots and deposits briskly. Keep repeating as often as necessary to help the chio- rine attack the remaining growth. eff alzac is so resistant that routine procedures do not remove it, contact a qualified pool profes- sional. Cloudy water cun be caused by any of several different factors. Uf the cloudiness is greenish, the pollutant is probably algae.
