Wel RESIDENTS ON Maplewood Cres. in the Norgate area wanted action from the District of North Vancouver and they got it. By DAWN BURKE John and Irene Koonce, of 1144 Maplewood Cres., became concerned when district staff started cutting down trees in the Welch Street Park strip. At the same time, the district started putting in a berm, a high mound of earth, in the same area. The koonces were concerned that removal of the trees, the only barrier between the houses on Maplewood and the traffic and industrial area on Welch, would destroy their view and decrease their property value. But municipal engineer E.J. Bremner and parks su- perintendent Dirk Oostindie say the work will only im- prove the look of the area and act as a more efficient sound barrier. Oostindie was set to meet with the Koonces and other concerned residents Thursday to discuss the work and address con- cerms. Irene Koonce wrote ta district Mayor Marilyn Baker and Oostindie early this week after a stand of alders was removed from the park Friday, May 31. In her letter Koonce protested what she called the ravage of the Welch Street Park strip. She asked why so many. trees were being removed, why a berm was being moved and why more parking was going in on the Welch street side of the park. Six- to eight-foot evergreens will be planted today (Friday, June 7) and these will act as sight barriers, said Bremner. Bremner explained that N.
