The competition featured eight of the best Pee Wee B teams from B.C, and Alberta. North Van’s only two losses were to the two provincial cham- pions Edmonton and Kelowna, who finished first and third respec- tively in the tournament. North Van's determined play carried the team to a fourth-place finish, one placing higher than Pacific Coast champion Rich- mond. Cowichan Valley finished second in the tournament. Throughout the season, North Van’s play was characterized by great team = spirit, thanks to goaltenders Tyler Owen and Dustin Frieson, defencemen Sean Kelso, Brendan Fisher, Duke Sall, Robert Busch and Dan Gillespie, forwards Jamie Morris, Todd Sto- jcic, Donald Coghill, Tyler Marsh, Jeff Romaniuk, Andrew Devine, Mark Campbell, Jeff Depner and Rene Pahike, assistant coaches Dan Ramaniuk and Ralph Buchmuller, managers Linda and Jeff Marsh, division director Terry Owen and coach Alan Campbell. Tottenham takes Burnaby tourney NORTH Vancouver Lions Gate (NVLG) Tottenham under-12 soc- cer team wrapped up a successful season by winning the South Bur- naby Men’s Club Tournament over the March 28 weekend. The Tottenham team blanked the Burnaby Blazers 2-0 March 28. On Sunday the team rolled over Killarney Eagles 5-0. Tottenham’s final played just three hours later against Langley Avengers. The Tottenham offence launched a re- lentless attack in the final and was backstopped by an aggressive and constructive defence. The Morth Shore team won 4-0 to take the trophy. Teachers chalk up Hansen winner CAPILANO COLLEGE instruc- tors and North Vancouver teachers took to the ice April 7 for the first annual NHL (North Shore Hockey Laugher) match in an effort to raise money for the Rick Hansen Man in Motion fund. About 100 supporters cheered the teachers on as they entertained with picture-perfect passing and nifty stick-handling. Spectacular goaltending by Windsor’s Doug Irwin and Capilano College’s Pierre Coupey kept the game close. The winning goal for the teach- ers was scored by Ted ‘111’ Bentley as he stick-handled his way through both his own and the op- position’s defence putting a hard, low drive behind a startled goalie. The Rick Hansen fund was a winner along with all the teachers as donations by the fans and the players exceeded $230. With a matching government grant the Hansen fund will receive almost $500, Foster’s Lager donated the ice time for the game, while Ian Williams, a Cap student, video taped the event. Cap’s Edna Sakata handled photography at the game and Jill Hanney arranged the details of the fund raising. Anyone interested. in seeing the hockey game may rent the video from the Natural Sciences office at Capilano College. All proceeds from the rental go to the fund.
