The process includes a review of advertising agencies currently used in tourism marketing programs; the advertising requirements of the ministry’s new responsibilities in the recreation, sport, heritage and cultural fields; and the increase of advertising agency resources neces- sary to meet these additional and specialized needs. During February informal meetings were held between senior staff of the ministry and repre- sentatives of agencies which have previously offered their services. Discussion topics included styles and types of services available, specific areas of expertise, a review of current clients, fee structures and past projects. A decision will be reached by early March on an agency to han- dle the majority of the ministry's tourism marketing program and four to five specialized agencies for other areas of interest. . Agencies selected for the work, estimated at approximately $10 million in value, will be granted three-year contracts due for review in the spring of 1990. The ministry’s current major agency, McKim Advertising Ltd., has been engaged since 1976, Its other mainline agency, Vrlak, Robinson, Hayhurst, has been working on ministry business for two years.
