Raymond, 61, retires today after a 15%-year stint as city ad- ministrator. “I planned (my retirement) this way because it’s a good time to get working on my garden,’’ said Raymond. ‘‘! hope to do a proper job on it this year.”* Mayor Jack Loucks called Raymond's retirement “the end of an era’’ and told Raymond: ‘‘In your quiet, firm way you’ve done a good job for the city.”” In his term as the city’s first administrator, Raymond watched the city change and grow. Of all the changes he has seen, the most exciting development is the Lower Lonsdale and Lonsdale Quay pro- jects, he said in an interview. Ald. John Braithwaite praised Raymond's service to North Van- couver City. ‘‘He says what is on his mind whether we like it or not,”’ said Braithwaite. Said Ald. Ralph Hall: ‘He’s contributed to the morale of city hall — people work together and they like cach other and we have Mr. Raymond to thank.” Describing the job as a challange and an experience, Raymond told council he was glad to be retiring. “[?m anxious to get on with my life,’” he said. Jerry Stewart, who has taught at Hillside Secondary for 11 years, is one of 10 B.C. consultants with SEEDS ~— an organization devoted studies to developing energy and en- vironmental classroom materials.
