Dear Editor ~ District council’s action in passing the Amendment to Bylaw 5640 covering the. manufacture of dangerous goods, at its meeting of Mon- day, January 23, 1984, was the culmination of several years of hard and persistent work, on the part of a dedicated group of citizens in this community, namely the _Chemical Hazards Alert Committee. _. . No need now to go back over such things as the Beak Report, The Chemical ‘Hazards Task Force, the defeat of the previous Bylaw in the courts; sufficient to say that we now have a Bylaw which will put a ‘measure of control on the manufacture of dangerous goods which was not there before. and which will serve as a notice to any further aspirants to Buckle up Dear Editor The tragic bus accident on Mt. Washington reminds us again that children are dying needlessly on B-C. highways. B.C. Minister of Transpor- tation and Highways Alex Fraser is now on record as saying mandatory seatbelts in B.C. buses is a future possibility. The British Col- umbia Medical_ Association commends the minister for his interest on this issue. However, Mr. Fraser is neglecting another life-saving gap whose solution is as close as the pen on his desk. As it stands, B.C.’s seat- belt law demands that anyone over the age of six be buckled up.
