ere) Apt ter pena Mes A8 - Sunday News, September 6, 1981 EE mailbox Dear Editor: 1 fail to see why Mr. Davis’ letter should be headlined “He’s cynical about council promises”. Let's be fair. Mr. Davis is expressing the resident's frustration about a problem with which council has not yet been able to deal. Heaven knows enough time, thought, and money have been spent in attempts to cut the problem. down to size, and by the time this letter gets printed council will have taken action to try to control a serious seasonal problem in the misuse of Pool 88. But promises? I do not recall council making any. We have been trying to control an intermittent problem without destroying the accessibility of the pool to those people who use it legitimately and sanely. But the controls are not working, and three weekends ago |! personally intervened with the RCMP to make sure that all illegally parked vehicles were ticketed, and those blocking access were towed away. I don’t like acting in this capacity and = ac- cordingly brought the matter before council the following day. As a result there are going to be = additional restrictions, but I for one do not promise these will cure the problem of misuse of the pool; I've been around too long to believe in fairies. Councils have lived with this problem for years. There is only one sure solution, and that is to close the access permanently. Personally I cannot yet resort to this kind of action because it penalises the Majority for the bad man- ners of a few. If Mr. Davis, or anyone else, has any positive suggestions for the control of this situation, I wish they would contact me. Criticism without con- structive alternatives is a negative exercise, and there may be practical solutions out there waiting to be put He’s outraged Dear Editor: , It was brought to my attention recently that three young black bear cubs and mother were slaughtered in the Municipal Cemetery. ] have observed the same harmless animals over the past weeks. I am absolutely outraged that such a neediess act should have taken place. I not only feel, but I instst the Ministry of North Wancouver. Environment jook into this matter and find out who was responsible for this inhumane act. All I can say in closing, is that I hope my bringing this —1to public attenuon and my condemnation of this act may save some other of our dwindling wildlife Christopher L.
