Right on Clif duFresne, with your letter about net widentiig the causeway and the lawsuits that could result. It is feasible and possible using the latest technology to widen the bridge to four lanes. [ under- stand the highways depart- ment considered the four-lane idea, Jr was, however, when egocentric and selfish Vancouver Park commissioners that said “Under, around, but not through Stanley Park” that the department stayed with the original three-lane bridge. The federal government bequeathed the park to the cit- izens at large, for all to use and enjoy. A tunnel would not allow the beauty of the park to prevail and it’s 10 times the Canadiana Days July 17618 The Sounds of Canada! July 17 & 18—2pm to 4pm Celebrate our Nation! The bridge issuc appears to be a done deal. However, let’s not accept the non-widening of the cause- wav te at least the same width as the proposed new renovated bridge deck. Today Pm writing the Vancouver Park commissioners on this issue, I urge all readers to do the same. Ervwen Smith West Vancouver Dear Editor: Re: Needled by B.C's physiotherapists (July 4 News). H you are not perfect vou shouldn’s practise, says Mr. Grant Smith, President of the Acupuncture and Herbal Federation of North America. Mr. Smith is quot- ed as saying that “You don't just get a pneumothorax from walking down the streer.” En fact thar is exactly the cause of most pneumoth- oraxes, or something as sim- ple as watching TV. So Mr. Smith's knowl- edge about medical condi- tions is very far from perfect. I presume though he will still continue to practise on. For myself, | have been in physiotherapy practise for 44 years and needled many patients and still perfection has yet to be achieved! James S. Mcgregor, Registered Physiotherapist jamesmcgregor@liome.com WV recreation plans applauded Dear Editor: A couple of months ago, a front page article in the Vancouver Sun criticized West Vancouver and several other local municipalities for failing to adequately provide opportunitics for our youth, particularly in the arca of recreation facilities. Many believe that this type of issuc will become more and more troubling for politicians in the future as the clectorate continues to age, and the needs of the young, an under-represented minority, ace overlooked. It was particularly refresh- ing when West Van council surprised us last month with the news that they would be acting immediately on the recommendations of the new recreation facilities master plan. Short-range plans are to upgrade the ice arena, upgrade a number of playing fields and to break ground on the construction of the long- awaited western recreation centre by the end of this year. The other major recommen- dations are the construction ofa new main recreation cen- se at the 22nd Street site and Ln . Recreation a major addition to our aquatic centre within five to seven years. My sense is this is not just clection year promis- ing and positioning, but indeed a genuine commit- ment to planning for this community’s future. West Vancouver is a great place to live. Keeping it this way takes forethought and sometimes courage. Kudos to West Van council on this one.
