Versatile plans perturbing Dear Editor: Is anybody interested in seeing what impact buildings that are proposed in the city’s plans for the Versatile lands would have? Then go and take a look at the 20-storey build- ing on the south side of East Second Street at St. Georges Avenue. According to the city’s plans up to four buildings of that size could be allowed in one block along Esplanade between St. Georges and Lonsdale. Further south on the lands an additional three to four 16- to 20-storey buildings could be built. View corridors have been mentioned. Sounds great. That is if you are in line with the corridors. But at almost any angle the buildings would appear to form a solid view blocking wall. Even seen from as high up as East Keith Road, the build- ing at East Second Street blocks out everything behind it. The wend in North Vancouver seems to be to build highrises at the water- froat. Is this right? I don’t think so. The most important prin- ciple should be to put higher buildings on top of the hills Mountainous memory loss? Dear Sir: An open letter to Derrick Humphreys re: Feb 16 “Stop Cypress Bowl Proposal” letter. - Trecall as a child feeling bewildered when witnessing my gtandfather demonstrating powers of selective hearing and con- venient memory loss when it was of benefit to him. It was puzzling that a man of such stature could succumb to a apparent senility at whim and then revert back to “operating on pistons” when it best suited him. He was also a wonderful story-teller, with each telling the tale was just slightly different but much better. I also recall a time when Derrick Humphreys, at that time mayor of West Vancouver, and the District of West Vancouver as being supportive of the privatization and the development of Cypress Bowl ski area. It astounds me, Mr. Humphreys, that you now seem ‘so determined to undermine the very process that you once endorsed. Convenient memory loss, Mr. Humphreys, or is the story just getting better? N. McDonald North Vancouver Don't cater to cry-babies Dear Editor: Re: Doug Collins’ Legislative Language Lunacy. This is Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, in case some people have forgotten. Doug, as far as we are con- cerned, has hit the proverbial nail right on the head. Why in God’s name would Ms. Kwan speak in the legislature in Cantonese? Hello? Does losing our identity mean anything to anyone and Pansies whatever happened to the old adage “when in Rome?” Sure it’s great to see a diverse culture, but not catered to at the expense of le like us who have lived here all our lives, We suggest Ms. Kwan et some class and stop this ind of “Legislative Lunacy” — do we really need cry-babies like this running our province?
