West Van wall to fail no more WEST VANCOUVER District Council voted on Jan. 8 against further modificatiu~s to a wall encroachment ut 2848 Bellevue Ave. WEST VANCOUVER DISTRICT COUNCIL By Maureen Curtis For months, Coun. Pat Boname has been fighting to have something done about the wall, which blocks the view of a creek, encroaches on the road allowance and, she felt, gave the adjacent owner “visual control” over " public land. - She -argued that the rock wall, ‘should be further reduced in height. “T think that is the best course...it will bring this land back under our control.” said Boname. The motion, as proposed, also stipulated that a pipe railing be placed on top of the rock to maintain the security of the area. Coun, Rod Day was against the idea, arguing that pipe railings are uglier than rock walls. Graham McMillan. who owns the adjacent property and had the wall built, noted that the municipality has already spent about $7,000 to lower the wall. Further lowering it would cost another $4,700, he said. West Vancouver resident Derrick Hawkins, who is a local “expert” on encroachments, recommended no further changes, although he is “appalled” by the fact that McMillan was able to build the wall in the first place.
