Some residents believe the pro-
posed Joop is unnecessary and
would endanger the lives of chil-
dren, particularly where the streets
are narrow and lacking in side-
walks. ;

Keith Road resident John Cox is
one exception.

“The residents of Cedardale are
giving the NIMBY syndrome (not
in my back yard) a bad name...
They seem determined to scuttle
any initiative for the betterment of
the whole community that threatens
their comfortable status quo,” wrote
Cox; He pointed to the earlier
“killing” of a long-term care facili-
ty for seniors that was proposed for
Keith Road.” he wrote.

Cox said he wanted bus service
so he ‘could leave his car at home

Fulvio Verdicchio, president ‘of
the Cedardale Property Owners’
Association, reported that 94% of
the residents attending an Oct. 18
ratepayer meeting ure against the
proposed bus route.

“In an era of cutbacks and sav-
ings, | am dismayed that money
would be spent on this issue at this

‘ime.” Verdicchio said in his letter

to council.

At the Oct. 23 West Vancouver
council meeting, Coun. Diana
Hutchinson expressed her surprise
and dismay, noting that local youth
frequently complain that bus service
in the municipality is inadequate.

“The presence of buses and bus
drivers would add to the safety of
Socal children.” she said.

Mayor Mark Sager suid there
have been many requests for
Cedardale bus service, but Coun.
Andy Danyliu said area residents
believe these have come from those
who live in nearby North Vancouver
apartments,
