Fromme for his family, was the first house in the Lynn Valley area and was built entirely from local materials. It later became the first house in Lynn Valley to have plumbing. Construction began in 1899 after Fromme homesteaded District Lot 2023. This house was originally built facing the skid road used by the loggirig industry. Mollie Nye writes that, “It was decided to move the house farther from the street, but.the complete move was never finished — thus its angular position on the proper- ty.” Rumor has it that a team of horses was used tc make the move, but they were needed for an emergency, so they were unhit- ched and taken away, and the house was never moved to its in- tended site. Mr. and Mrs. Fromme had five _ children and according to Miss Pre-register for Tai Chi THE NORTH Shore Neighbour- hood Heuse is once again offering its popular morning Tai Chi classes. WHY RISK IT ALL? mammaner @) NORTH SHORE HERITAGE Nye were ‘‘almoast self-supporting with over 5G fruit trees, a garden, a cow and a horse. Toy, a Chinese gardener, helped with the garden and animals. The grounds were beautiful with the green lawns, ‘rhododendrons, azaleas, fruit trees and other flowering shrubs.’’ The Black Walnut tree (Nigra) is a significant landscape feature in the front yard, as are the rem- nant ornamental crab apple trees in the front and back yards, and an old mock orange shrub at the front gate. As you look beyond its notable stone and wrought-iron fence, you will see that the original structure of the house is still ap- parent even though there have been alterations done over the years. In 1907, Fromme bought the Hastings Shingle Co. and renamed it the Lynn Valley Lumber Co., and built a second mill at Lynn Valley Read and Mountain High- way; this company logged the west bank of Lynn Creek. This prominent Lynn Valley pi- oneer was also active in communi- ty affairs and served as reeve from 1924-1930. — By Dorothy Foster Monarch: farnitine gallery JANUARY EVERYTHING 0%: 0%, savINost 30 DAY NO INTEREST PLAN UA TERMS O.A.C. 5 5 cet Knight Rosd) 2 ‘sinigle: OP od _ RailCaps,.: |; #AB305 #AB405 34x2% 5x3 Baseboard a) a Chair rail | 200 Donaghy hve.
