Lions Bay residents need to have a post office Dear Editor: { read your article about the closure of the post office facilities in Lions Bay. Obviously your reporter was not at the meeting. Maybe he was teo lazy to drive out to Lions Buy, so he only bothered to publish the views of the post office management and their friend Mr. Klan — who must have been the only person in the meeting to agree with them. The performance of the post office representatives was pathetic, pitiful and a good laugh, All the reasons they gave us for the closure were refuted one by one. The only clear signal was that they have only contempt for taxpayers (especially in litthe communities with small political pull) since they are no longer a Crown corpora- tion. The main reason for the closure, they said, was money- making. However, they could not or would not tel! us how much they fose a year in this post office. They spent $100,000 in building our facility but they would rather scrap it Chan give us service. f always thought that the reason for the post office was the delivery of mail. [ cannot believe that having to drive — or walk — 16 kilometres to collect your mail can be called “delivery of mail’ I wonder how are the older people in the village going to manage this driving? We have no post master because the post office chose not to ap- point one. The “‘casual’’ employee could fill the post as she is a con- scientious and efficient profes- sional. Maybe that is the reason they do not appoint her, that is a ‘no-no’ for pust office stand- ards. About putting the post office in the store, it has been done, several times before, always unsuccessful- ly, as the post office should know. Even though we receive inferior service than the neighboring communities, we have not com- Athietes training hard, but still require funds Dear Editor: Thank you for the excellent ar- ticle by Elizabeth Collings in the May 5 North Shore News about the Canadian Transplant Games Association.
