10 - Wednesday, April 25, 1990 - North Shore News Traffic is no problem, say NV tower developers From page 9 If approved, the day care will be built within about 18 months and will have about 37 spaces for children under five years of age. In a recent public meeting on the issue, MacFarlane said he had ‘‘a fundamental problem with giving it away for free to Lonsdale Creek (a potential day-care facility for the site)."" MacFarlane estimated that it would cost M&M roughly $400,000 to build and equip the day care to high quality standards. But he added that ‘the rent we’ll receive won't come close to paying for capital costs."” Lonsdale Creek day care repre- sentative Jean Christie told council at the meeting that her non-profit day care, which has been on the North Shore for 16 years, had not expected to receive the space free. She said Lonsdale Creek day care has a waiting list of over 126 for their present location, The day care is only one com- ponent of a project that its devel- opers are hailing as part of a *tnew urban redevelopment trend’ in North Vancouver. Janet Lutz, one of the speakers for M&M, said the project would “make a statement about North Vancouver."’ If the development is approved, MacFarlane said he expects it to be completed by the end of October 1992, with 400 on-site parking spaces to accommodate residents and tenants, as well as an addi- tional 90 spaces of paid parking for off-site cars. But M&M said the development would not add significant traffic congestion to the area. David Langley, senior transpor- tation engineer for the project, said the mix of residential and of- fice space eased potential traffic problems, because not all the traf- fic would be travelling at one time.
