INDEAWS BRIEFS LGH smokers’ lounge approved SMOKERS WILL soon be able to find an indoor haven at Lions Gate Hospital after the hospital board decided Wednesday night to approve construction of a $25,000 smokers’ lounge despite heated opposition from some doctors and members of the public, who argued that the moncy would be better spent on health care. “‘Lions Gate Hospital will continue its present policy of restric- ting cigarette smoking to designated areas including the recently developed atrium,’ said LGH president Robert Smith. The hospitai? faced a barrage of criticism last week for its deci- sion to spend $25,000 on a glassed-in smokers’ area adjoining the hospital cafeteria. Smith said the board originally voted to build the smokers’ lounge in response to complaints from staff and visitors about groups of smokers standing outside the hospital’s entrance.
