ty’s thorough traffic bylaw enforcement officers.

is offering the general public a

free-wheeling parking on city-
controled streets and Iaxs,

The parking perk is part of an
elaborate open house celebration
planned by the city to celebrate
Local Government: Awareness
Week, April 17 to April 23.

The city’s open house is set for

Thursday, April 20, 10:30 a.m. to
9 p.m., at the municipal hall.
Organizations participating with
displays include the various city
departments, the North & West
Vancouver Emergency Program,
the city library, local recreation
centres, the SPCA, the city fire

department, the Economic Devel-
opment Commission, the North
Vancouver Chamber of Com-
merce, and the local hezIth unit.
City clerk Bruce Hawkshaw said
staff is bracing for an onslaught of
400 elementary school students
who are scheduled to tour through
the hall between 10:30 a.m. and
noon, and [ p.m. to 3 p.m.
Anybody dropping by to take in
the event will be eligible to win
some unique prizes. Visitors
receive a map at the door. A map
stamped with three stamps from
three display booths allows the

guest to enter a draw for prizes in-
cluding a 15-minute local
helicopter ride for four over North
Vancouver City, the 10-day park-
ing permit, two hardcover bocks
donated by the library and a golf
shirt displaying the North Van-
couver RCMP logo.

The display continues outside
with fire trucks, municipal
works-yard equipment and a
Greater Vancouver Regional
District mobile air monitoring
unit.

City celebrates Awareness Week by holding open house

mayors and councils will be turn-
ing over their seats to high school
students who will be testing their
rhetorical skitls as junior politi-
cians.

The students will be tackling the
real agendas and current issues
regularly addressed by the com-
munity’s elected officials.

And North Vancouver District
will be hosting a mall display at
Lynn Valley Centre April 22 dur-
