16 ~ Sunday, July 17 1988 - North Shore News Host families sought for exchange FOURTEEN-YEAR-old Catriona Sears of North Vancouver is learn- ing how the French ‘‘do it’’ this summer. Catriona left for France on June 29 on an exchange program through NACEL, a French organization based in Tours. France. She is staying with a French family in the South Of France near Nice, Cannes and Monaco. Catriona will have the opportunity to learn about French culture, French family life and the French language while witnessing the beauty of the Mediterranean. This is the second year Canada has participated in the program, which aims to facilitate language and cultural exchange between young people of the world. For four weeks children immerse themselves in the language and culture of their host family simply by becoming a temporary family member, oo NORTH Vancouver student Catriona Sears... leaving for France. Last summer the Carlson family of West Vancouver opened their home to a French youth. This year, NACEL desperately needs B.C. host families for a number of French youths for four weeks this summer, Aug. 5 to Sept. 2. Locally, NACEL organizer Gaye Lefaivre is seeking at least 11 host families to participate in the pro- gram. Said Lefaivre, ‘‘It’s a great program. The French families are so keen. The French do this to immerse themselves in a language.
