NEWS photo Stuart Davis Know the facts about Autopilan policy ALMOST A third of B.C.’s 1.8 million vehicle owners renew their insurance this spring. And although some make time to discuss their Autopian options with their agents, many motorists still buy their insurance on the run or in a last minute line-up at month’s end. Knowing the facts and choosing the right coverage for your needs can have important financial im- plications for you and your family in the year ahead. That's the message from the Insurance Cor- poration of B.C. and its 800 agents. Check your Autoplan coverage. Does it provide you with the pro- tection you need? For example: If you are not carrying collision or comprehensive you will have to foot the bill for your own vehicle repairs or replacement if your vehicle is vandalized or stolen. The same applies if it is damaged in a collision for which you are at fault. How much third party liability insurance do you have? This pro- tects you from financial loss if you are responsible for the injury or death of another road user. It works like this: if you have UMP and carry higher third party renewal! liability limits than the driver who is responsible for the accident, his limits will be augmented to the level of your own, if necessary, to cover any injury claims you may have to make against him. In addition to reviewing your in- surance needs, ICBC suggests tak- ing time to read the renewal guide mailed out in February. It outlines important changes in Autoplan that were effective Jan. I. These include: Any equipment supplied by the vehicle manufacturer is now automatically covered by collision and comprehensive insurance. In addition, up to $500 of sound and communication equipment and $1,000 of other permanently at- tached equipment not supplied by the manufacturer will also be covered.
