Oldtime Vancouver Canucks Gerry O'Flaherty, #23, and Sta Ostlund, #19, laugh it up at the expense of Doug Casey, a North Van RCMP player who made the grade, pie and all, as an honorary Canuck at a recent hockey showdown. HOCKEY BENEFIT Oldtimers trim THE NORTH Vancouver RCMP dropped a 9-6 decision to the Van- couver Canuck Oldtimers Nov. 2 in their annual benefit hockey game at North Van Rec Centre. This year, 170 boys’ teams and 50 girls’ teams are taking part in the series, which began on the Oct. 25 weekend and continues this weekend. Part of a program that involves close to 10,000 boys and girls and 4,000 adults annually, the exchange series was started in the early °60s by Vancouver’s Jack Gotdingay and West Vancouver's Fred Jopson. Goldingay, who had moved to Seattle, brought an American soccer team north to take on one of Jop- son’s teams. The Canadian squad made a subsequent visit to Seattle for a return match and the exchange series was born. Woodward has been an administrator of the pro- gram for six years. “There are no banquets scheduled, no trophies to give out and no exchange of gifts,’’ says Woodward. “We downplay individual publicity and dor.’t record or publish the scores. Competition is not the main aim here, it’s cultural exchange.”* Can't find us? Don’t know where to look?
