Loose dogs frighten

OPEN LETTER.TO MAYOR
MARILYN BAKER:

As a retired resident of Deep
Cove I like to take a daily walk
around our beautiful
neighborhood.

Unfortunately, this is usually
marred by the traumatic experience
of being threatened by some of the
numerous dogs that run loose and
rush towards one growling and
snarling with bared teeth.

Some of these are big — Great
Danes, German Shepherds,
Dobermans, etc. but even the small
ones can inflict a painful bite as }
know from experience.

If the owner is present he will
invariably assure you that the dog

cases of people being attacked and
injured by dogs, the owner was
always sure his dog was harmless,
which shows how useless such re-
assurances are.

In any case, even if the dog is
harmless the harassment is
frightening, objectionable and
unwarranted, and can ruin an
otherwise pleasant stroll.

I believe I have a right to inno-
cent passage along our streets
without this regular harassment. |
believe there are laws designed to
ensure, this and would appreciate
any help you can offer in the mat-
ter. (I also urge, any other pedes-
trian or cyclist who is bothered by
this sometimes terrifying problem
