He drove his car to the Schenectady, New York, Amtrak railway station one day and left it in the parking lot. He spent a week in ttan and when he returned home, his car was gone. But that wasn’t the weird part — the whole station was gone, too. The depot had been slated for demolition for some time, but nobody — at least nobody around the station itself — knew exactly when it would be torn down. Two days after Zicha left, the order arrived. Five days later, when Zicha returned, he said: “It was like coming out of the twilight ; zone. I couldn't believe it. No car, no station, nothing.” Embarrassed Amtrak officials said they would reimburse the bewildered commuter for his $15 cab ride home, the $35 lowing charge and $7-a-day storage expenses for his car. A BIGGER MINI; While the large cars get smaller, it seems the small cars are getting larger. You can see above a sneak preview of the Mini -8 from BL Cars (formerly British Leyland) Ltd.'s Austin-Morris division. It's expected the Mini LC-8 will be out this fall. The current Mini has been in production for some 20 years and its replacement has an entirely new look, larger interior dimensions, a rear hatchback and is longer and wider than the present car. The styling reminds one a bit of the Ford Fiesta and like that car, also is designed around a transversely-mounted four- cyclinder engine driving the front wheels. There will be a choice of engines ranging in size from about 900 to 1500 cc. The original Mini had an 850-cc engine while the Cooper and Cooper-S had a racy 1000-cc power plant. Subsequently the 1000-cc engine was offered on the basic Mini, too. THE CAPILANO COURIER: If you have ever had problems fitting a mattress or load of firewood into your car, you shold think about getting a 1980 Ford Courier pickup truck. Perhaps you are a do-it-yourself person. Having a pickup truck sure solves the problem of how to get that insulation or lumber home from the yard — and saves on delivery charges. Or if you frequent the Buy ‘n Sell columns, again a truck makes it easy for you to pick up that bargain-priced freezer or couch. Even if you buy your furniture new, those big furniture warehouses charge you extra for delivery, so your pickup truck means you get full advantage from the discount prices. And if you are in business for yourself, then your pickup can become a real money maker. We have just got in a new stock of the Couriers, with both the short and long boxes. They are made by Mazda for Ford, and are quality throughout. When you're in the cab, you could just as easily be driving a car, it's so well-finished and com- fortable. We are even having a special Capflano Courier package put together. That pickup will have fancy wheels and tires, rollbar and complete striping kit. If you have never had or driven a pickup truck before, drop down to Brasso for a test drive. ] know you will be impressed with the versatility of our new 1980 Ford Couriers. And if you are familiar with pickups, you will be just as impressed with what the Courier has to offer.
