The certificate means the LGH provides « superior level of service to North Shore people. The award follows. a searching three-day inspec- tion of the hospital fast November by _ representat- ives of the Canadian Council on Hospital Accreditation— the only official body in Canada to conduct ‘surveys and pass judgement on. hospital standards. The Council is sponsored by the Canadian Hospital Association, the Canadian Medical Association, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the Canadian Nurses Association and L’Association des Med- ecins de Langue Francaise. IN EVERY AREA Hospitals found by the Council to be‘in substantial compiiance’’ with the stan- dards it has set are normally given. accreditation for a. two-year period. However, in cases such as LGH, where a hospital meets or surpasses the standards in every area, accreditation may be .sarded for three years. The occasion was a gathering last Wednesday at the Canyon Gardens to honor the former mayor Ron Andrews and officially present him with the freedom of the District of North Vancouver. Andrews served eight years as a District alderman and a further nine years as mayor before losing his bid for a fifth term at last year's polls. Shortly afterwards he announced his retirement from public life.
