The homeowners are in an uproar because they say the Zoroastrian temple planned for the residential block will cause traffic problems in an already congested area. A 22-year resident living by the site says the position of the proposed lot in rela- tion to Anderson Crescent, Taylor Way and Sentinel Hill will create a ‘hazardous traffic situation.”” “There are 140 families who belong to the church,’’ the resident said, who did not wish his name to be us- ed. ‘‘Let’s say there are four people in each family. That’s about 600 people coming and going on a residential lot.”” But church representative K. Alghabi told the News there are 139 families in all of B.C., and about 100 fam- ilies in Vancouver, with an average of three or four family members. Alghabi, a West Van- couver resident, said only 30 per cent of those members would attend at any one time, except at six special occasions where about 50 per cent would attend. Allan said the church has filed for a building permit application, which must be checkec by the planning department to be sure the plans conform to the zoning bylaw. The site for the church must be twice that of the minimum site requirement of 12,000 square feet in the area. Height restrictions are 45 feet, versus 25 feet for houses. And it must also meet sideyard, parking and landscape requirements, which the building depart- ment approves. West Van municipal plan- ner Steve Nichols said ac-. cording to the plans, the ma- jority of the building is one level, except for one area of sloping roof which would be approximately 42 feet. The proposal must then go before West Vancouver District Council, which it is slated to do July 22.
