The issue is future residential neighborhoods (the orange areas on OCP maps) in the areas be- tween the Lynn and Seymour Rivers, and when is a park not a park. The issue is also long term east/west transportation needs (the map’s red arrow) from the Ross Road area to Blueridge. These iterms . have, raised . the eyebrows.and ires of some of our residents, They have teen address- ed by council in the community plan by the statements: “‘subject to further study”’ **under review.”” The answer to the question is that while community planning is not static it should offer stability and a clear statement of intent for all our citizens. We must identify and all the issues and possibilities and - . review thern in detail before mak- ing decisions on the long term— plans for the municipality. It is our responsibility to look ahead at the needs of our com- munity and how we “‘fit’’ into the Greater ‘Vancouver Region. What are our housing and transportation needs? How much growth is enough? . These and other questions will ~- be addressed in the OCP, however, there are several outstanding issues subject to further, more detailed review. A public hearing was held May 30 and has now been adjourned indefinitely pending this review to include four major issues —~ trans- portation. and land use at three specific sites in the Seymour OCP. The day will start off with the Kiwanis Breakfast at the Chevron ° Gas Station at 9 a.m., and a bicy- cle decorating contest for the kids which meets at Highlands school at 10a.m. | Following the 11 a.m. parade, which promises to be better than ever, June Days will be opened with North Vancouver District Mayor Marilyn Baker officiating. . “*This will hz very much a family - affair,’’ Harris told the Chronicle. Within the three block area . there’ll be pony rides, a petting zoo, balloons and face painting, in addition to the North Vancouver Fire Department’s little house display for the kids. The stage will be busy with per- formances from noon until 4 p.m., : including a Gold’s Gym workout for the kids, square dancing and the Sweet Adelines. A cake-cutting will take place at 2:45 p.m., so be sure to be on hand to receive your piece. Ald. Craig Clark will do the cutting honors. The _ merchants are going to enliven’ the street scene with a - sidewalk sale, and there'll be plen- ty of food around, including the Texaco station’s Heart Fund hot dog sale. Newspaper sculptor to perform THE CAPILANO Chronicle’s representative at Edgemont Village’s June Days will be an unusual sculptor/performer, North Vancouver’s Marke Mazeppa. A highlight of last year’s PNE Parade, Mazeppa effortlessly creates amazing creatures out of newsprint, old film and other recycled materials. “I like to use ‘found’ maierials that are easily available,” says Mazeppa. He is currently a student at Capilano College where he specializes in bronze casting and clay ceramics: and is working — toward a masters degree in Fine At the same time he often teaches children’s art classes and will be giving a session on dinosaurs (for ages 6-12) in July with the North Vancouver Recre- ation Centre. : .
