The Community Heritage
Commission (CHC) with the
support of council initated
tts Heritage Award Program

honor special Projects and
accomplishments in the field
of heritage conservation.

The CHC is an advisory
body appointed by council.
fits members inetade auali-
fied professionals such as
architects and landscape
architects, specialists in
building restoration, a histo-
rian and local residents with
an interest in’ heritage con-
servation.

The CHC advises council
on the administration of its
Heritage Conservation
Program.

This includes protection
of the district’s historic areas
and a heritage
buildings.

Tr also. presents heritage
plaques, prepares guides, and
organizes walking tours,
awards and displays.

According to CHC chair-
man Brian Ellis: “His inno:
ative work as an. architect
helped bring modern archi-
tecture to North Vancouver
in the 1940s.

“The recent New Spirie
exhibinon at the Vancouver
Art Gallery featured many
examples of his” creative
designs. Dozens of his build-
ings still stand today in the
Capilano Highlands area as a
testament to our modern
heritage.”

Luston was the recipient
of an award) for heritage
advocacy.

According to Ellis: “He
has recently completed work
on the update of the District
Heritage Inventory for
buildings of the modern era
(1935-1960).

“His tireless dedication to
this work unearthed many

the district

in order to further encourage
excellence in design and ree-
ognize projects which signif:

Vancouver.

The Advisory Design
Pasel is an advisory body
Appointed by council.

The panel members are
qualified design and develop-
ment industry professionals
such as architects, landscape
architects, and developers.

The panel does not judge
desizns placed before it bur
works with developers to
arrive at improvements and
alternative solutions,
