Friday, Sept. 9: the Vancouver
Symphony Orchestra (VSO) holds
its second-annual fashion show to
premier the fall lines for Versus,
Istante, Versace Sport, Versatile and
Versace Jeans Couture. The event,
with an auction, live dancing, and
music by a VSO ensemble, takes
place at 7 p.m. in the B.C, Ballroom
of Hotel Vancouver. 684-9100,

Monday, Sept 12: Lions Gate

Hospital (LGH) and the Canadian
Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance
Association Foundation have estab-
lished the first Look Good ... Feel
Better program for cancer patients
on the North Shore. The first two-
hour workshop takes place 7-9 p.m.
in Seminar Room A at LGH. There is
no fee but pre-registration is a must:
984-5753. Workshops will be held
the first Monday of every month,

Monday, Sept. 12: Members of
Vancouver's arts community will
model fall and winter fashions at
Holt Renfrew’s annual fashion gala
to benefit Arts Umbrella. Champagne
reception, 6 p m.; show, 7:30 p.m.;

Q:How do I get rid of
mildew stains?

: Armitdew is a fungus growth which
usually develops on garments or house-
hold items under moist or damp condi-
tions. Areas with poor ventilation or
damp, warm areas such as hampers anc
basements, contribute to the formation
of mildew. A musty odor is usually the
first sign that mildew may be occurring.
Mildew usually attacks cellulose fibres
such as cotton, linen, and ramie, but is
also likely to occur cn other fabrics.
Mildew stains range from grey to black
but will sometimes be yellow or red.

Mildew cannot always be removed.
The only effective way to remove the
mildew discoloration is by locally spot-
ting or wetcleaning with an oxidizing
bleach. Only chlovine bleach actually kills
the mildew, but other bleaches such as
sodium perborate or hydrogen peroxide
may lighten the mildew stain. Be sure to
choose the appropriate bleach for the
fibre type and test for colorfastness prior
to any treatment.

The other top winner was [7-
year-old Christina Wilson of West
Vancouver, who not only had a
great look, she had lots of enthusi-
asm and a positive outlook.

Though these girls are perfect for

the job, they don’t necessarily have
“perfect” model looks.

One of the four will need rhino-
plasty (a nose job) before che does
any work. But Bell referred to this
as a minor change, simply a refine-
ment of her looks.

“Many models get little nips and
tucks of this kind to improve their
looks,” she said. “It’s a simple and
common operation and the girl's
contract will pay for it.”
