by the re-releases collected
here in boxed fashion to the
inherently pretentious recent
work with The Brodsky
Quartet — The Juliet Letters
— released earlier this year.

This Liverpudlian son of a dance
band leader and former roadie for
Brinsley Schwartz (Nick Lowe on
bass) burned his way into cultural
mass consciousness with a brilliant
barrage of passionate, snarling
pop.

The prolific geek had a taut gut
full of hostile ironies.

In the Attractions, he had a band
that could nail down the songs to

_ their compressed and urgent
essentials.

- In Nick Lowe he had a.musician
who could sharpen the incisive
edges as producer for the first
three studio efforts.

The four releases in the box are
the first of a string of digitally
remastered Costello discs to come.
The 11 Columbia Records issues to
1986 are in the works.

Back to the box. Each disc in-
cludes rare demos and singles.
