of earliest in Mahon Park area

THIS ELABORATELY
detailed Craftsman-styled
home was built in 1911 for
V.W. Jones and was
designed by N.A. Kearns.

It is unknown whether Mr.
Jones ever lived in this house,
though. Being one of the earliest
homes in the area it originally
stood on a double lot.

Gther heritage homes are near-
by, and it is also close to Mahon
Park.

A family by the name of the

Darlings came over from England
during the Second World War and
purchased it around 1939-1940.

At that time a 10-foot-high
fence encircled the property for
greater privacy, and many parties
took place in the home and
garden.

They: sold it to a family named
Summers, who occupied it until
1962, when the present owners
purchased it.

Notable features of this
Craftsman designed home would
include the rubble stonework on
the first storey (according to the
1911 building permit, 34 cords of
stone were used), the triangular
eave brackets, projecting bay
window on the front porch and
recessed bay window in stonework
at the front.
