36 ~ Friday, October 16, 1992 — North Shore News Gas prices return to pre-summer levels AFTER A summer of gas Price increases, motorists saw some relief at the pumps this. autumn as gas prices returned to pre- summer levels, according to a recently released survey by the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA). The CAA survey reveals that the Canadian average price for a litre of regular unleaded gasoline at self-serve stations stood at 55.1 cents per litre in early June, rose marginally in July and August and returned to 55.1 cents per litre in September. The highest gas prices in the country were found in Quebec, at 61.1 cents per litre, and Prince Edward Isalnd at 60.0 cents per litre. The lowest gas prices in Canada were found in Ajiberta at 48.7 cents per litre and Saskatchewan at 51.8 cents per litre. On the other hand, our optimism is guarded since they (gas orices) haven’: decreased significantly ei- ther.*" said CAA president Michael S. McNeil also reiterated CAA’s concern over excessive fuel taxa- tion as well as the Association’s contention that lower gas prices would provide a much-needed stimulus to Canada’s tourism in- dustry and overall economic situa- tion.
