ADULTS WHO live or work with young children may
be interested in two upcoming workshops offeisd by
the Early Childhood Education Program of North
Shore Continuing Education.

Superhero Play and the Young Child will be held on
Wednesday, Feb. 10 from 7 to 10 p.m. June Meyer
will address this controversial topic. through a
multi-media presentation, and strategies for guiding
this type of play will be discussed. Cost for the even-
ing is $10.

Learn to Play the Autoharp is a two-session course

_ being held March 9 and 16 from 7 to10 p.m. Instruc-
_ tor Janet Cave will include suitable music activities for

three to five year olds. Autoharps are supplied or par-
ticipants can bring their own. Class size is limited to
15, and cost for the course is $25.

Both programs will be held at the Lucas Centre,
2132 Hamilton Ave.

ENERGETIC AND MATURE
person needed to assist a blind
woman with fast walking one hour
per day. Increasing her walking
speed is a prerequisite to receiving
a guide dog. If you enjoy walking,
share the experience.

PATIENT AND EMPATHETIC
person is needed to assist a handi-
capped young woman with an ex-
ercise class on Monday and Wed-
nesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. The vol-
unteer will assist the person in
understanding the exercise instruc-
tions.

VICTIMS OF CRIME PRO-
GRAM wants people with excellent
Janguage and fife skifls to assist
crime victims. After submitting a
resume and two references, the
volunteer, if chosen, will par-
ticipate in a six-day, five-and-a-
half hours per day training pro-
gram at the law courts. This train-
ing will enable the volunteer to ex-
plain the justice system to crime
victims and to assist these people
in court. If you have a valid
drivers’ license, have completed
Grade 12 and want to learn more
about the justice system while
helping others this position will in-
terest you.

PROGRAM needs assistants to
prepare soup and sandwiches for
children attending elementary
school. The lunches are sold at a
nominal fee, their purpose being to
augment the children’s lunches.
Hours are from 10:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m. If you enjoy children
and want to participate in this
much-needed funch program your
help will be greatly appreciated.
THE GREAT CAPILANO
RIVER DUCK RACE needs vol-
unteers to free trapped rubber
ducks and to assist in keeping the
race flowing along. Broomsticks
and rubber boots are a must, free
poncho provided. Bring a friend
and share a unique Valentine’s
Day experience. Feb. 14 from 11
a.m, to 1:30 p.m.
INTERESTED IN
PSYCHOLOGY? A research assis-
tant is needed to collect data for an
animal bonding study. The project
involves studying the effects
visiting animals have on the elderly
at Evergreen House. The volunteer
should be comfortable handling
large dogs, have excellent listening

skills and empathy with the elder-'

ly. A car is necessary for the
transportation of the dogs every
other week for six months. Train-
ing and orientation will be provid-
ed
