Originally presented at the Nep- tune Theatre in Halifax Don Messer’s Jubilee subsequently took a successful seven-month tour, in which it played in nine out of the ten provinces. Now it will be seen in B.C. Don Messer was one of Canada’s most beloved enter- tainers. Along with Charlie Chamberlain, Rae Simmons, Marg Osborne, Duke Nielson, The Islanders and the Buchta Dancers, his radio and television broadcasts spanned four decades. His talented fiddle playing and his down-to-earth appearance gave him a traditional and homey image with which millions of Canadians identified. SONG AND DANCE The show takes a musical look at the last tour of this Canadian entertainer and tells the story in song and dance. The Don Messer band is reborn as the fiddle bow leaps and the skirts swirl to the square-dance steps.
