Long, opera-length strands of fine-quality pearls are proving to be popular gifts. Draw a smi IF YOU'RE looking for jewelry for that special person on your Christmas list, the international award-winning Swed- ish Jeweler has everything from an extensive selection to personalized service. ‘Our lines are very clean and simple,’’ explains sales design con- sultant Nathan Fong. ‘‘Our jewel- ry is not mass produced and it re- ally complements a lot of women’s fashion and everyday wear.”’ Swedish Jeweler offers jewelry buyers a wide selection of the popular pave jewelry. ‘‘It’s a very special field,”’ explains Fong. ‘*It’s when you use very small stones and set them close together to present a very brilliant look.”’ And the pave (pah-vay) jewelry is a popular item, especially when it comes to rings. ‘We will sell quite a few at Christmas time,”” he says. But for the customer who is not quite sure what is the right gift, Fong and other staff members are on hand to assist. Often, explains Fong, a man will come into the store looking for-a gift for his wife or girlfriend. “We would ask what type of jewelry does she have already,” he says. Then, staff and the customer try to find a piece that will please both the man and the woman. “We want her to have something she’ll be happy with.”’ : With the selection at Swedish Jeweler, shoppers will be hard pressed not to find something that is just right for their Christmas giving, whether a more traditional look or the latest trendy style. This year, the popular Christmas items are what Fong calls ‘‘the big type of jewelry’? — large earrings being just one example. ‘“‘A lot of traditional items are coming back — like long strands of pearls,’ he says. Hot Christmas stones this year are the usual sapphire, emerald and ruby. But others such as the blue lapis, black onyx and green malachite are also proving popular le this Xmas with this season’s jewelry, “Amethyst is another popular stone.” In metals, silver is in big de- mand. ‘‘The last few years it wasn’t big,’? remembers Fong. “All of a sudden it took off.” Although jewelry is often seen as a special gift, Fong says that this need not be the case. ‘Jewelry can be for any occasion,”’ he explains. And jewelry gifts are not con- fined to women: — there is a grow- ing market for men’s jewelry. Cuff links, tie bars and watches are three popular gift items for the man on the shopper’s Christmas list. ““We have very chic watches,” says Fong. But for those not in- terested in chic, he stresses that Swedish Jeweler also has more conservative styles. All of Swedish Jeweler’s watches are Swiss made and the store’s lat- est line sports the ever-popular Gucci name.
