By Martin Millerchip Contributing Writer NORTH Vancouver District Council wants to do its bit for nation- al unity. It voted unanimously Monday with Coun. Jim Cuchbert’s motion — to consider twin- ning with a municipality in Quebec. Cuthbert told council twinning could = “pro- vide an oppor- tunity for dia- logue = and through that better under- standing of life in the two dif- ferent parts of the country.” He said the move was a natural follow-up to the dis- Device made to save energy From page 28 (into the container) and all the black stuff is out of the pipe and it’s absolutely ster- ile.” He took the idea to a pipe manufacturer. They liked the idea but rejected it because they thought it would ruin the pipe wood. Bohme’s pipe cleaner didn’t make it to the retail end of the equation bur if you are a sport fisherman and you use a downrigger you may have come across some of his fishing devices. There’s Bohme’s down- tigger line release for “no premature release, no lines to pinch, no pulling c; jerking,” or the Deep-Troil Reel-Mate, “ideally suited to retrieve any amount of empty fishing line "ina jiffy.” There’s the Down Under diving planer to take “your line down deep with- out additional weight,” and the Diving Sinker, “the one that catches more fish.” A few years ago he came up with a simple little device meant to save electricity. There was a time when his kids always left the fights on outside. Bohme would put tape over the light switch to keep it off. He advanced the idea by making a plastic tab that can be mounted into existing standard light switch panels. The user then simply swivels the tab to cither lock out the switch or activate it. He took the idea to B.C. Hydro, a utility ostensibly quite sensitive to power con- sumption habits. “There was an engineer in the Power Smart business, with all kinds of names behind his title. He looked at it and after a while he said, “Ya it’s a good idea but I don’t think we'll take this because it’s not fail proof. If you forget to do it then it’s not going to work.” He’s made them for his relatives, they?re making them for themselves and Bohme is happy to share the device with News readers.
